Mangaluru: 721 students awarded Rs 38 lac in scholarships at St Aloysius University ceremonies

Mangaluru, Aug 31: A total of Rs 38,19,500 in scholarships were awarded to 721 UG students during ceremonies held on August 28 and 29, 2024.

On August 28, 61 students were honoured for their active participation at state, national, and international levels, receiving scholarships worth Rs 6,87,000 under the Kreeda Spoorthi title.

Yathish N, IPS, Superintendent of Police, was the Chief Guest for this event. Additionally, 235 first-year UG students were awarded cash prizes totaling over Rs 11 lac under the Vidwath Spoorthi Scholarship for their excellent performance in the 12th/PUC Board exams, with many scoring 95% or higher.

In his speech, the SP encouraged students to consider a career in civil services. Guest of honour CA Norbert Jerome Saldanha, an alumnus from the centenary year 1980, shared his experiences as a student.

The vice-chancellor of St Aloysius Deemed to be University, Dr Praveen Martis SJ, presided over the programme. Dr Alwyn D'Sa, Registrar of the autonomous college, and Shilpa D'Souza, institutional development officer of St Aloysius Institutions, were also present.

On August 29, a total of 425 students were awarded need-cum-merit scholarships amounting to Rs 19,57,500.

Dr U T Ifthikar Ali, an alumnus of St Aloysius College and recently appointed chairman of the Karnataka State Allied and Healthcare Council, was the chief guest. He commended the St Aloysius management for their support of meritorious yet needy students and suggested the introduction of allied healthcare UG programmes.
