Bantwal: Absconding accused in gas cylinder theft case arrested

Bantwal, Sep 4: The police successfully apprehended an accused who had been on the run after being convicted in a gas cylinder theft case within the jurisdiction of Bantwal town police station.

The accused, identified as Shareef C Abbtas, a resident of Kotterka, had been evading court appearances following his conviction. When presented before the court, he was sentenced to one year in prison and fined Rs 5,000.

Approximately 22 years ago, Shareef was involved in the theft of gas cylinders from a gas agency in BC Road, for which he was convicted. However, he had been absconding for the past 14 years, avoiding court summonses.

Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended him in Baikampady, Mangaluru. The arrest was carried out by a team led by PSI Ramakrishna, under the guidance of Bantwal town police inspector T Padmanabha, with the assistance of staff members Ganesh, Rajesh, and Irshad.

    Now they have him.Why he avoided so long?Now the amount he has to pay or punishment in jail is increased..No escape now.People should think ,one day or other thief will be caught.Better not involve in such things.
