Udupi, Sep 4: In an online fraud case, personnel from the Udupi district CEN police station successfully tracked down a cyber-fraudster and seized Rs 1,56,100 in cash.

The complainant, Jay Shetty from Belman, reported that his son, Prashanth Shetty, who is employed abroad, holds two accounts at Union Bank's Belman branch. These accounts were linked to PayTM's online payment system. Between February 10 and February 20, 2024, unknown individuals transferred a total of Rs 1,56,100 in several instalments from these accounts without Prashanth Shetty's knowledge, causing significant financial loss. Based on Jay Shetty's complaint, a case was registered at the CEN police station.

Following this, a team led by police inspector Ramachandra Nayak, ASI Umesh Jogi, and staff member Nilesh travelled to Berhampur in Odisha. They gathered intelligence on the accused and successfully identified and apprehended Vishal Konapala (30), a resident of Ganjam district, Odisha. The team managed to recover the entire defrauded amount of Rs 1,56,100 from the accused's bank account.

I hope the net financial loss to Jay Shetty of Belman after arrest of the culprit is Rs. Zero. Normally in such cases you have to let go some percentages which is not small.
