Mangaluru, Sep 6: In a tragic accident that occurred after midnight on Thursday, two youths lost their lives after their bike skidded near Yeyyadi. The incident took place around 2:30 AM when they were returning home after finishing their shift at Chalukya Bar in Shakthinagar.

The victims have been identified as Chethan (24), a resident of Ramakunja, and Kashinath (17), from Urwa Store.

As they approached Haripadavu Junction, a truck in front of the bus stop was slowly reversing. Due to the negligence and haste of the bike rider, he lost control, causing both the rider and the pillion to fall onto the concrete road. They sustained serious injuries and tragically passed away.

Both Chethan and Kashinath were rushed to a private hospital but were declared dead upon arrival. The bodies have been kept at the hospital for further procedures. The Mangaluru south police station has registered the case and is investigating the incident.

It's tragic that young lives have been lost. As it looks like since it was night, the rider and the pillion both would have not bothered to wear helmets. Also at night, when there aren't many vehicles on road, people tend to get a little excited to speed and fell the adrenaline. And that combination of speed nd no helmets will be fatal in case of a mistake. Otherwise a skidded bike wouldn't cause fatalities as I myself have been involved in trying to avoid potholes and at worst got out with few bruises and no more.

That spot is prone to several accidents, it’s a very poorly designed intersection and even experienced drivers find it difficult to negotiate , what makes things worse is the speeding traffic to and from the airport. High time the traffic police / authorities find a proper solution.

Skidded bike doesn't cause fatalities if only they wear proper ISI marked helmets when strapped on. Majority youth and girls don't wear them for their own excuses.
