Mangaluru: No withdrawal of electric auto-rickshaw permit across district - DC Muhilan

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Sep 6: Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner (DC) Mullai Muhilan clarified that the order passed on July 26, allowing the operation of electric auto-rickshaws (E-autos) throughout the district without area restrictions, cannot be revoked.

Speaking at a meeting with auto-rickshaw owners and drivers held at the DC's office on Thursday, Muhilan said, “This order was issued within the legal framework, following the guidelines of the Union government and a directive from the high court. Those concerned may seek further clarification through an appeal in a higher court."

He added, "The union government has granted free permits for E-autos to operate without any city (Zone-1) or rural (Zone-2) restrictions. This is being implemented across Karnataka, including in Mangaluru, with similar provisions in Bengaluru. However, restrictions have been imposed in Tamil Nadu. If such restrictions are to be implemented here, they must be enforced at the state government level. Auto-rickshaws drivers in Chikkamagaluru have already appealed to the state government for restrictions similar to those in Tamil Nadu."

@Sanjay, Mangalore; reduction of fares will again be strongly opposed by the regular autorajas for obvious reasons; secondly most non EV autos run on gas whereas their meters run on diesel rates thus getting a pretty good margin; compare the meter tariffs, they are much higher than in Metro cities like Mumbai! Passengers who once travel in an E-auto would always prefer the same due to the leg area and ride comfort; those conventional auto owners will have to compete with the E-autos or change over!!

1st of all it's a good decision by DC, but need to take action against auto-rickshaw drivers who don't value all passengers. park in stand and say go in other auto ??? Because some auto drivers all others get remarks, Never seen an auto rickshaw checked by RTO or fined?

If the Fare is reduced, and the meter system is strictly implemented in Mangalore and Udupi. Then it will be a win - win situation for both the Auto Driver and the Passenger.
