Kundapur, Sep 10: The Karnataka Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board has delayed the disbursement of educational financial aid for the children of construction workers for the past three years. Protesting this delay, children of workers, under the leadership of the CIT Union, held a demonstration in front of the Kundapur MLA's office on Tuesday, September 10 raising their concerns against the state government.
Suresh Kallagar urged the MLA of the Kundapur constituency to put pressure on the government to release the educational financial aid for the children of construction workers.
Today’s protest is part of a statewide movement called by the Karnataka State Building and Other Construction Workers' Federation (CITU), where workers' children are submitting memorandums to their MLAs. The protest in Kundapur was held in front of the MLA's office.
"Numerous protests have already been organized by our union to demand the release of educational financial aid for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years. Both the board and the labour minister have held discussions with our organization and assured us that the aid would be released, but those assurances have remained unfulfilled, and the delay continues. The labour minister is citing bogus cards as an excuse to create obstacles for children's education," complained Suresh Kallagar, president of the union.
The protest was initiated with a welcome address by Santosh Hemmadi, general secretary of the union.
Students Pallavi, Shreyal S, Sameer, Bhoomika K Poojary, and others participated in the protest.
Union vice president and CITU taluk convener Chandrashekhar V, Krishna Poojary, Shashikanth S K, Vijendra Koni, and Sudhir Poojary were also present.
