Mangaluru, Sep 12: Prof Anil Sahasrabuddhe former chairman of AICTE, chairperson of the National Education Technology Forum (NETF), chairman of EC National assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and chairman NBA to deliver an endowment lecture on the topic ‘Role of Education in National Development’ on September 14, at 9:45 am St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru.

The purpose of the Endowment Lecture is to provide a unique opportunity to learn from Prof Anil Sahasrabuddhe, pioneer of education who has made significant contributions to society. The Endowment lecture will be held at Fr L F Rasquinha Hall, LCRI at 9.45 am. The lecture will be presided over by Fr Melwyn Joseph Pinto SJ, pro chancellor, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University). Dr Praveen Martis SJ, vice chancellor, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), registrar Dr Ronald Nazareth, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Dr Alwyn D’Sa, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Fr Vishwas Misquith SJ, finance officer and Dr Rachael Natasha Mary, coordinator of the programme will be present

Prof Anil Sahasrabuddhe will be honoured with a special felicitation to recognize his significant contributions to education and national development.

Profile of Prof Anil Sahasrabuddhe

Prof Anil Sahasabuddhe completed his BE in mechanical engineering from Karnataka University and pursued his Masters and PhD from IISC, Bengaluru.

He worked as a Scientific Officer at IISc and as an Engineer Trainee at Tata Consulting Engineers before embarking on a teaching career. He joined the newly established North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, contributing to both institutions from their inception. At IIT Guwahati, he held several key positions, including head of the department, chairman of the library committee, chairman of JEE, dean of academic affairs, and deputy director.

He joined the College of Engineering Pune as director on deputation and successfully revitalized the institute, positioning it among the top 15-20 engineering colleges in India. In 2015, he was appointed chairman of AICTE, where he spearheaded significant reforms, transforming the organization into a more dynamic and facilitative body rather than just a regulatory one. He is widely recognized for his contributions as an institution builder, excelling in areas such as academic, curricular, and co-curricular development, entrepreneurship, research, and good governance.

At AICTE, he has been a key architect of transformative reforms in technical education. His initiatives include introducing mandatory student induction and internships, implementing faculty certification and ATAL faculty development programs, and launching India's first-ever MOOC platform, SWAYAM. He also played a pivotal role in driving examination reforms, fostering an innovation movement, organizing a series of hackathons, and promoting the Indian knowledge system.

He is actively involved with various professional societies and holds fellowships with ISTE, IE, IET, and INAE. His contributions have been widely recognized through numerous awards, including the Praj Intrapreneur Award (2011), the Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar (Lifetime Achievement Award, 2019) from MIT World Peace University, Pune, the Mahatma Gandhi Leadership Award (CSR Times, 2019), and the John Mathai National Fellow Award (2021), among others.
