Mangaluru, Sep 12: A video of a student being thrown from an overcrowded private city bus traveling from Talapady to Mangaluru has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred on the Saint Anthony private city bus, route number 42, which was packed with passengers. The video was captured by a passenger in a car following the bus.

The bus had halted near the Thokkottu railway overbridge bus stop, where the student, who was hanging onto the footboard, was thrown onto the road when the bus came to a sudden stop. Fortunately, the student escaped without injury. The entire scene was recorded on a passenger’s mobile phone and quickly spread across social media platforms.

Due to inadequate bus services in some areas, students often hang onto the footboards of overcrowded buses in a rush to reach their schools and colleges on time. This dangerous practice has led to tragic incidents in the past. Two years ago, Yasharaj, a first-year PU student from Ullal Baidare Palu, died after being thrown from an overcrowded bus while traveling near Kallapu Adam Kudru.

Despite such incidents, public opinion suggests that traffic authorities have not taken strict action against private buses that continue to overload passengers, risking lives.

Praise to Almighty that nothing serious had happened or else this boy would have been died by now or injured badly....why take so much risk to go in a already crowded bus? Will the conductor give them concession of not taking any money that these students have to climb the already crowded bus and go standing or hanging on footboard?? or whether these students try to be spider man by holding the kamba or pole???

Politicians & civil servants are busy with thier affairs of give & take. Whohas got time to take care of the general public . When tax collection or any money matter comes in relation to the govt , they are very alert & they are very patriotic. in India Patriotism cost a lot of tax payers but in return you see the social & public services given to the general public. The public should wake up to address these issues when voting . but we dont realise when election comes, bcoz they shift the minds of the people with different issue.

When ever there is an incident, there is talk about safety standards, only soon to be forgotten. Hope this incident leads to implementation of doors in city buses. Also hope more attention given than Pet dog taken in garbage truck.

It's a simple answer, we lack public transportation on grounds during peak hours. The transport authority/ RTO / DC is not concerned of looking into such issues. If loss of life has happened earlier then there should have been swift action by taking ground reports (Surveys in educational institutes can be helpful ones) where students are facing because of lack of govt buses then by adding required buses only during peak hours will help solve? Below instances : # Karkala, Aug 22, 2024 : A student from a private college here fell from a moving bus and died near Nitte on Wednesday. #Puttur: 15-year-old student gets thrown out of moving school bus, dies Sun, Nov 11 2018 09:25:17 AM #Puttur: 12-year-old student thrown out of moving bus, dies Sat, Dec 30 2017 08:24:10 AM #Mangaluru: 23-year-old conductor dies after falling from moving bus Wed, Aug 30 2023 11:09:14 AM #Kasargod: Student travelling by bus dies after his head crashes against roadside light pole Wed, Oct 18 2023 09:26:26 PM #Mangalore: Youngster falls from moving bus, dies on spot Tue, Dec 17 2013 03:33:34 PM Standing on footboard is breaking traffic law ? Why RTO and Traffic police are silent on such issues ? A special squad be drafted to identify such offences and suitable action taken against the conductor, driver and owner of the bus.

I remember the RTO asked to install doors on all the buses. I think they only remember when any incident happens.

Big talk was going on regarding the Bus Doors through Commissioner, RTO and Police Commissioner and many others. Every City Bus is over crowded specially during morning and evening hours. Busses become tilted on one side. If the Tire goes flat the hanging Passengers will go Flat. People should keep on calling Police Commissioner and DC Office. Don't call RTO which is waste of time.

Mangalore - Mulki- Karkala is one of the most crowded routes especially in the morning and evening time. Students are the most worst hit by this overcrowding . Concerned authorities, kindly look into this

First and foremost, city bus drivers and conductors should be fined for overloading passengers and speeding, which is happening in almost every city bus in Mangalore during morning and evening hours. Elderly passengers face a lot of difficulties due to this. Therefore, hanging or standing on the footboard should be strictly prohibited, and traffic police should especially monitor city buses. Anyone breaking the law should be fined to protect the lives of innocent people.
