Kundapur, Sep 12: In an incident that occurred on Thursday, September 12, early in the morning near the Rama Temple Hall in Naikawadi, Gujjadi village close to Gangolli, cattle thieves who came to steal livestock fled the scene after abandoning the stolen cattle and the vehicle they used.
On September 12, at around 4:20 am, Rajesh and Bharath, personnel from the D.A.R. Strike Force who were staying at the Rama Temple Hall, went outside for urination. They noticed two individuals forcibly dragging a cattle away along the road near the hall. When they saw the police personnel approaching, the cattle thieves abandoned both the cattle and the vehicle they had brought and fled the scene.
Upon inspecting the vehicle left on the road, it was found that the backseat had been removed and inside the vehicle, three cattle were found cruelly tied by their legs and necks with plastic material. The accused are believed to have stolen these cattle from somewhere and brought them in the vehicle with the intention of slaughtering them for meat.
A case has been registered at Gangolli police station.
Increasing cases of cattle thefts
There has been a continuous occurrence of cattle thefts in Gangolli and Gujjadi areas. The attempt made to steal cattle early Thursday morning highlights the ongoing issue. The Hindo Jagarana Vedike has strongly condemned the incident and warned that if the culprits are not arrested immediately, a protest will be staged in front of the police station, as stated by Shankar Kote, the district coordinator of the organisation.
Fake number plate
It has come to light that the number plate of the vehicle used by the cattle thieves was fake. The vehicle had its number plate changed to illegally transport the cattle.
A separate complaint had been lodged at Gangolli police station regarding the theft of cattle in car street three times in recent months and the three cattle were found in a sack on the seashore.
Despite ongoing reports of illegal cattle transportation during the night and early morning in Gangolli and Gujjadi areas, there are accusations that the police have not taken adequate action to curb this menace.
