Udupi, Sep 14: Udupi district police officials have taken a tough stance against their own team members amid growing concerns about corruption and neglect of duty. Over the past year, approximately 80 police personnel, including four sub-inspectors, have been suspended under the direction of Police Superintendent Dr. Arun K.
Dr. Arun K has been stringent in monitoring police conduct, taking decisive action when misconduct is identified. The suspended officers faced various allegations, including involvement in illegal sand mining and other forms of corruption. Some officers have completed their suspension periods and have been reassigned to different stations. Those with minor allegations have been reinstated after thorough investigations.
Public complaints against police officials are being actively encouraged. A Circle Inspector is responsible for investigating accusations against sub-inspectors, while complaints against inspectors are reviewed by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP).
Suspended officers receive half pay during their suspension period and may appeal to the Inspector General if they believe the accusations against them are false.
Dr. Arun K commented, “It is a gradual process. A few have been suspended over dereliction of their duties. These actions are taken to strengthen the department and to ensure that officers prioritize maintaining law and order.”
