Udupi, Sep 15: Elephant menace resurfaced near the Nellikatte temple in the Bettu Shedikanth area, which lies on the edge of the Someshwara reserve forest in Nadpalu village, Hebri taluk.
A wild elephant uprooted a large tree, blocking the road that connects Nellikatte to Megadde. Nadpalu gram panchayat president Naveen, along with local residents, cleared the tree to restore the smooth flow of traffic.
Currently, bus services are only available from Hebri to Nellikatte, and people traveling from Nellikatte to Megadde must walk five kilometers. Although the forest department provides a bus service for school students, the general public is now hesitant to travel in the area due to frequent elephant sightings.
Forest officer Chidanandappa stated, “The elephant is roaming in the forest zone, but there has been no recent damage to private farmland. We are closely monitoring its movements, and will take action if necessary.”
