Puttur: Auto driver shocked to get fine notice for not wearing two-wheeler helmet

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (MS)

Puttur, Sep 15: An autorickshaw driver from Uppinangady has received a fine notice for not wearing a helmet, issued by the Talakadu police in Mysuru.

Rohit, who runs an auto in Uppinangady, received a message stating, “At 3:18 pm on September 12, 2024, vehicle number KA21B3862 was found without a helmet at Talakadu Junction on Mysuru Road. As per the MVA Act, a fine of Rs 500 is required.”

The vehicle number in the notice matches Rohit's auto. However, the fine was issued for a two-wheeler.

Rohit, a resident of Periyadka in Uppinangady, who claims his auto was in Uppinangady on the date mentioned and he does not own a two-wheeler.

The message, based on CCTV footage, was received on the same day, which is unusual since fines based on CCTV footage are typically not sent immediately.

Rohit contacted the Uppinangady police, who advised him to await a formal notice by post. He also reached out to the Talakadu police station, which stated they do not use a CCTV camera fine system. This has led to suspicions that the message might be fraudulent.
