Mangaluru, Sep 17: YCS of St Sebastian Church, Bendur September 16 visited the De Mercedes Paneer children's orphanage as part of their outreach programme, and it was a truly humbling experience. As they arrived, they were greeted with warm smiles and eager eyes. The children's enthusiasm was infectious, and they soon found themselves laughing and playing with them.

They shared stories, played games, and had a wonderful time together. Yet, amidst the joy, they also glimpsed their tough realities. They saw the scars of abandonment and the longing for love and acceptance. One little girl clung to them, refusing to let go, while another boy shared his dream of becoming a doctor. Each child had a unique story and struggle.

As they left, they felt a mix of emotions: sadness, but also hope. Despite the odds, these children are resilient, hopeful, and full of life. This experience reminded us of the power of human connection and the need for love and support. It showed us that all have the capacity to make a difference and be a source of light in someone’s darkness.

They departed with a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to support these incredible children and the dedicated caregivers who work tirelessly for them. They also handed over the gifts collected from the children of their parish during the nine-day novena in honour of Mother Mary.

The outreach programme was successfully coordinated by YCS animators, Blossom Rego and Anita Lobo, with unwavering support from Fr Walter D’Souza, the parish priest, and Fr Lawrence Cutinha, the assistant parish priest and YCS director.

Their leadership, guidance, and encouragement played a vital role in motivating YCS youth to actively participate in the initiative, fostering a strong sense of community involvement and service.

Overall, the outreach programme was an extraordinary experience.
