Mangaluru, Sep 20: The prestigious KNS Annual Award will be presented to Jerome Moras, Lucy Mascarenhas, and Martin R. D'Souza during the KNS Annual Day celebrations, scheduled for Sunday, September 22, at 5:30 PM at Don Bosco Hall, Mangaluru.
Each year, the Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) honours three distinguished stage personalities for their significant contributions to drama and related fields, emphasizing their vital role in preserving and promoting cultural heritage through performance.
Martin R D'Souza, Lucy Mascarenhas and Jerome Moras
Jerome Moras
Born in 1951 in Angelore parish, Jerome Moras has made a remarkable impact on the drama scene since 1971. He began with performances in Paray by Austine D'Souza Prabhu and Tomato by ChaFra D’Costa. With over 100 dramas to his credit, Moras has also directed numerous plays. A member of Konkani Natak Sabha since 1984, he is a core member of Memory, a popular comedy troupe from coastal Karnataka. Moras has performed in various cities across India and the Gulf.
In addition to his stage work, Moras has appeared in Kannada and Konkani films, serials, and short films. He was honoured with the 'Shresht Comedy Kalakar' award during the Kalasampath play competition. For a decade, he contributed to White Doves under the leadership of Corrine Rasquinha.
Beyond his artistic endeavours, Moras served Corporation Bank for 39 years and was vice president of the All Banks Christian Employees Association. His dedication to the arts and community continues to inspire many.
Lucy Mascarenhas
Born in 1958 in Cascia parish, Lucy Mascarenhas has dedicated over 40 years to the Konkani stage as a prompter and remains an active force in the theater community. Known for her expertise in voice modulation, dialogue coding, and timing, Lucy’s backstage work is essential to many prominent Konkani drama directors in Mangaluru.
Her skills have made her a valuable collaborator with industry leaders such as Wilfy Rebimbus, Lawrance D'Souza, Dolphie Cascia, Clarence D'Souza, Benna Ruzai, Tony Ruzai, and Mick Max. Lucy's unwavering commitment has left an indelible mark on Konkani theater, ensuring its vitality for future generations.
Martin Robert D'Souza
Born in 1968, Martin Robert D'Souza is a prominent figure in the Konkani arts, known as an actor, director, writer, critic, and poet. Writing under the pen name MaSo and currently as Man Vamanjoor, he has acted in over 45 plays, collaborating with esteemed groups like Kala Sampath, KNS, Kala Kutam Mangaluru, Udenthiche Kalakar, Vamanjoor Natok Pongod, and Mandd Sobhann. His portrayal of 'Vishenthi' in Vishenthiche Bhav by the Vamanjoor Team earned him wide acclaim.
In addition to his theatrical work, Martin is deeply involved in social work in Mangaluru. His organizational skills have fostered a strong theater community in Vamanjoor, ensuring the continued growth and appreciation of Konkani drama. His commitment to both the arts and his community exemplifies true cultural engagement.
