Mangaluru, Sep 21: In an extremely rare occurrence, a two-headed calf was born in Kinnigoli near Mangaluru. The calf has captured the attention of locals and veterinary doctors. Although it is currently healthy, its long-term survival is uncertain.
The cow, owned by Jayarama Jogi, a resident of Damaskatte Doojalaguri, gave birth to the unique calf, which has one body but two heads. Both heads are joined and each has two eyes, but the two middle eyes do not move, while the other two function normally. The calf is unable to stand on its own and is being bottle-fed.
This is the second calf born to the same cow. The calf is female, but its chances of survival are uncertain. Although family members are helping it stand, the weight of the heads exceeds the strength of its body.
Veterinary doctors have diagnosed the condition as polycephaly, where an animal is born with two heads and four eyes. Only the two outer eyes are functioning. The calf is reportedly healthy but unable to stand or move on its own. Mulky taluk veterinary department doctors have stated that the calf’s survival depends on its ability to stand and drink milk on its own, but it may face additional health complications.
