Mangaluru, Sep 24: The multi-level car parking project at Hampankatta, which was stalled due to various obstacles, is set to resume. If all goes as planned, the remaining work on the project will progress soon.
The Smart City team has made an important step forward by starting excavation for the project. Discussions are ongoing with the organization that secured the tender for the work. The company, which initially faced challenges that halted progress, is now showing increased interest in moving the project forward quickly. A final decision is expected in a few days.
The contracting company has already invested crores of rupees in the project, with the initial work completed. There was an issue of landslides on one side, but necessary action has been taken. It is likely that the same company will continue with the work.
Anuradha Prabhu, head of the contracting company awarded the tender, said, “Our company has completed projects in various locations, including Mangaluru. We took up the multi-level car parking project at Hampankatta and have spent crores on the initial groundwork. However, due to certain reasons, we temporarily paused work. Now, we are ready to resume and have informed the Smart City team and concerned department.
“Our family has believed in Daiva and Gods for generations and has performed pooja. We sought the blessings of Daiva and God before starting the multi-level car parking project. However, some are unnecessarily bringing religious issues into the project. We are moving forward to build a beautiful multi-level car park with the blessings of Daiva and Gods.”
This project is being executed under a BOT (build, operate, transfer) contract, where the contractor funds the project and completes the construction. Once the building is operational, the contractor will manage it and collect rent from consumers, paying a specified amount annually to the local administration. After 30 years, the building will be handed over to the local authorities.
Locals are eager for the project’s completion due to the acute shortage of parking in the heart of the city.
