ICYM Udupi diocese hosts enthralling ‘Yuva Dabazo 2024’

Udupi, Oct 1: Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), diocese of Udupi held a highly successful diocesan youth convention, 'Yuva Dabazo 2024', at St Francis Xavier Church, Udyavar. This annual event brought together youth from various parishes across the diocese for a day of talent showcases and have a great bond among youths.

The day began with a solemn inaugural Mass, celebrated by Fr Charles Menezes, dean of Udupi deanery. In his homily, he encouraged the youth to be pillars of faith and leadership within their communities. His words set the spiritual tone for the day, underscoring the importance of youth engagement in the church’s mission.

Following the Mass, a series of exciting unit-level competitions took place. These contests were designed to highlight creativity and teamwork, with the events such as creative walk, futuristic art, flower carpet and brain wave.

In the afternoon, the much-anticipated battle of bands took centre stage. The high-energy performances from various deaneries created a festive atmosphere, showcasing the exceptional musical talent within the diocese.

After intense competition, Kanajar unit emerged as the overall champions, having excelled across multiple categories, while Perampalli unit secured runner-up position in unit-wise competitions. The top honours for battle of bands were Kallianpur deanery – first place, Udupi deanery – second place and Karkala deanery – third place.

The day winded up with valedictory programme which was graced by Fr Anil D’Souza, parish priest of St Francis Xavier Church Udyavar as the president of the event, advocate Rayan Fernandes who was the chief guest along with other dignitaries Fr Charles Menezes, dean of Udupi deanery, ICYM Karnataka region president Vileena Gonsalves, parish council vice president Lawerence D’Sa, youth coordinator of diocese of Udupi Priya Furtado, Fr Steven Fernandes ICYM director diocese of Udupi and Godwin Mascarenhas, president, diocese of Udupi. ICYM Karnataka region president Vileena Gonsalves enlightened the youths with a few inspiring thoughts.

During the valedictory programme Youth Commission event calendar was launched by the dignitaries to further support youth initiatives. Advocate Rayan Fernandes delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the importance of youth taking active roles in both church and society.

In his presidential address, Fr Anil D’Souza commended the youth for their enthusiasm and participation, encouraging them to continue being beacons of hope. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, officiated by Fr Steven, director of ICYM, diocese of Udupi, where the winners of various competitions were honoured. The day ended on a high note of the diocesan ICYM anthem, a symbol of unity and spirit.

Yuva Dabazo 2024 was a resounding success, bringing together the vibrant youth of diocese of Udupi for a day filled with faith, fellowship, and fun. The event was a true testament to the vitality and energy of the young church in Udupi.
