'Our step towards cleanliness' initiative marks Gandhi Jayanti in Udupi dist

Udupi, Oct 2: District chief commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Udupi, Jayakar Shetty Indrali, in his presidential address, emphasized the importance of continuing Mahatma Gandhi's principles of cleanliness and community service beyond the national holiday. "Today's program is not about any particular religion but about a mission to keep our surroundings clean. We should not limit ourselves to cleanliness drives on Gandhi Jayanti alone but practice this principle throughout the year," he stressed.

He further encouraged students to embody the values of Mahatma Gandhi. "Though we may not be Gandhiji, we should strive to follow his teachings in our everyday lives," he added, expressing his gratitude to government officials for organizing such a successful event.

Superintendent of police, Udupi district, Dr Arun K, reiterated the importance of spreading Gandhi’s message of cleanliness and non-violence. "To celebrate Gandhi Jayanti meaningfully, we must follow and promote the principles he lived by," he said, urging everyone to continue the cleanliness drive in their homes and communities.

In a significant step towards promoting cleanliness and hygiene, a rally themed 'Our Step towards Cleanliness' was held in Udupi today. The event, organized under the leadership of the district administration, district panchayat, and Udupi municipality, saw the active participation of Bharat Scouts and Guides Karnataka district organization, Udupi, along with several local organizations and educational institutions.

The rally started from Service Stand and concluded at Town Hall, with participants, including students, local leaders, and citizens, stopping at Ajjarkad Park to honor the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The event began with an all-faith prayer led by Scouts and Guides, symbolizing unity and the shared vision for a cleaner and healthier environment.

The rally was supported by the Badagubettu Credit Co-operative Society Ltd., Udupi, Udupi District Co-operative Union, and several Lions Clubs, along with educational institutions like Christian PU College and organizations such as the Prachyasanchaya Research Center and Lombard Memorial Mission Hospital, Udupi.

The occasion saw the participation of key dignitaries, including deputy commissioner of Udupi, Dr Vidya Kumari; district chief commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides Karnataka district organization, Udupi, Jayakar Shetty Indrali; superintendent of police, Udupi district, Dr Arun K; chief executive officer of Udupi zilla panchayat, Prateek Bayal; mayor of Udupi City Council, Rayappa; additional superintendent of police, Udupi district, S T Siddalingappa; assistant director of the Youth Empowerment and Sports Department, Udupi district, Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty; and Lions district governor, District 317C, Mohammad Hanif.
