Mangaluru: Yenepoya observes 'swachhata' pledge, cleanliness drive

Mangaluru, Oct 3: "Swachhata Hi Seva" is a nationwide initiative of the government being observed from September 17 to October 2 to strengthen voluntarism and collective action for Swachhata.

In this view National Service Scheme (NSS) Yenepoya Pharmacy College & Yenepoya Nursing College under the guidance of NSS, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) conducted an awareness campaign on 'Swachhata Hi Seva' by 'swachhata' pledge, cleanliness & old clothes collection drive at the college campus & at Olavinahalli Rehabilitation & Community Development Centre from September 28 to October 1.

Yenepoya Pharmacy College & Nursing College principal & dean, Dr Mohammed Gulzar Ahmed & Dr Leena K C respectively inaugurated the drive on September 28 by donating old clothes. This activity was aimed to make students aware of importance & methods of handling reusable things responsibly to keep cleaner environment. NSS programme officers and members Mohammed Asif Iqbal C, Shashikumar Jawadagi, Tahreen Taj, Alima Misiriya, staff & NSS volunteers were present.

On October 1, after a brief orientation by Sr Aileen Mathias, both college and NSS volunteers actively participated in a cleanup at the Olavinahalli Rehabilitation Centre. The initiative aimed to promote a clean and healthy environment, which is essential for improving the lives of underserved communities. The programme concluded with a thank-you note from Sr Mathias, along with NSS programme officers Asif and Shashikumar, and NSS student coordinators.
