Mangaluru, Oct 6: Promising young writer Floyd Kiran Moras, known as Floyd Nirkan, was honoured with the 'Leo Rodrigues Family Kittall Youth Award 2024' on Saturday, October 5, at a ceremony held at the MCC Bank Ltd Hall here.
This award, established by NRI entrepreneur Leo Rodrigues, recognises emerging writers with significant potential and includes a cash prize of Rs 25,000 along with a citation.
In a recorded video message, Leo Rodrigues expressed admiration for the literary platform Kittall.com and commended H M Pernal, its editor, for supporting young writers. "Since its inception, I have supported Kittall and am proud to honour young talent in my family's name. I assure you of continued support in the future," he stated.
MLC Ivan D'Souza, who was also the chief guest, highlighted the influential role of writers as advocates for the public. He praised H M Pernal as a role model for fearless writing and noted that while he has not received a youth award himself, he actively promotes younger authors. D'Souza expressed optimism for Floyd's literary journey, stating, "Society awaits more from you."
Anil Lobo, chairman of MCC Bank Ltd, remarked on Kittall’s unique role in promoting Konkani literature, emphasising its commitment to truth and advocacy for the common people. He encouraged Floyd to follow in the footsteps of previous awardees, who have become prominent figures in Konkani literature.
In his acceptance speech, Floyd expressed gratitude to those who inspired his writing, saying, "I never thought I was eligible for this award. It now represents a responsibility, and I will do justice to it."
H M Pernal welcomed attendees, while award committee member Titus Noronha delivered the vote of thanks.
The event was hosted by Wilson Kinnigoli and attended by community leaders and entrepreneurs, including Micheal D'Souza, Rohan Monteiro, Pius Rodrigues, Naveen R D Souza and Marcel Monterio.
