Mangaluru, Oct 9: Garlic prices have seen a sharp increase, with rates rising by Rs 100 per kg in just 10 days. The cost of high-quality garlic, which was Rs 250 per kg, has now surged to Rs 370.

Three varieties of garlic are available in the market. The smallest variety, previously priced at Rs 200 per kg in wholesale markets, has now reached Rs 300.

Retail prices are even higher, according to Ramesh, a local trader.

"Garlic prices have been climbing for the past month, and they have risen further now. In retail markets, it is selling for Rs 400 per kg. The price hike is due to lower crop production, though there is no shortage in supply yet," said Lokesh, a wholesale trader.
