Karkala, Oct 29: In a new development in the murder case of Balakrishna Poojary of Depputte, Ajekar, police investigations have revealed that the accused, Dilip Hegde, procured poison as early as June from a private lab in rural Udupi.
Pretending to be a medical student and convincing the lab that he needed it for laboratory use, Hegde purchased ‘Arsenic Trioxide’. This act suggests that the accused had been planning the murder of Balakrishna Poojary for over five months.
Police questioned the owner of the Lab, who confirmed the sale of the poison. Udupi SP Dr K Arun stated that further questioning may be conducted if necessary.
Dilip Hegde, who grew up and studied in Mumbai, was not socially active. He held a BCom degree and returned to Karkala a few years ago to join his family's business. With minimal social connections, the public is left wondering how he turned into a killer.
Police suspect Hegde obtained knowledge of Arsenic Trioxide via Google search, exploring its chemical properties and potential lethal effects. Investigators are exploring the possibility that he was influenced by social media, movies, or peers for information about the poison. His extensive online research may have included details on how slow poisons affect the human body.
