Bengaluru, Oct 31: The State Cabinet’s decision to constitute a commission to study the demand for internal reservation among Scheduled Caste community is not a delaying tactic, clarified Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday.
The chief minister said the State Cabinet has given an in-principle approval for internal reservation among SCs and explained that people of all the 101 sub-sects among the SCs will be taken into confidence before taking a decision, which will be strictly worked out on a scientific basis.
Siddaramaiah, has in a statement, mentioned that a commission headed by a retired High Court judge will be constituted as per the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952 and the government has decided not to make any direct recruitments in government civil service, where the reservation policy is applicable.
The Congress government has taken a decision on the basis of the commission constituted by the Telangana government pertaining to internal reservation among the SCs.
He said there is a need for collecting necessary data for working out the internal reservation on the basis of the decision of the Supreme Court on a scientific basis.
The commission will be asked to submit its report in three months and after receiving the report, internal reservation among SCs will be implemented, he said.
The chief minister said the Supreme Court has recently decided that internal reservation was in accordance with the Constitution and therefore, the State Cabinet has taken a revolutionary step.
“There will be no compromise on ensuring social justice,” he said explaining that the Commission is being constituted to avoid any disputes later once a decision is taken on a scientific basis.
