Channapatna, Oct 31: Union Minister and JDS leader H D Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil, who is contesting as JDS-BJP candidate in the Channapatna assembly by-poll on Thursday, claimed that he lost from Mandya in 2019 and from Ramanagara in 2023 because of “hidden conspiracies” by the Congress and not due to lack of support from the peoole.

Nikhil had contested from Mandya in the 2019 lok sabha election against BJP-backed Independent Sumalatha Ambarish despite Congress and JDS being in power, and again in the 2023 assembly election from Ramanagara when JDS-BJP-Congress fought separately and he had entered the fray to fill up the seat vacated by his mother Anita Kumaraswamy.

Like his grandfather and JDS supremo H D Deve Gowda and his father Kumaraswamy, Nikhil broke down and emotionally appealed to the people to elect him to serve them.

As Nikhil broke down during his speech, the supporters told him: “You should not cry and we will vote for you.” The crowd said: “We will not let the grandson son Deve Gowda to be defeated from Channapatna.”
