Mangaluru, Nov 6: MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has directed South Western Railway officials to prepare a detailed plan for the development of Farangipete railway station. Speaking at the progress review meeting of the South Western, Southern, and Konkan railway divisions held at the district commissioner's office on Monday, Capt Chowta emphasized the need to upgrade Farangipete station to better serve the public.

Mangaluru Central Station redevelopment: Officials reported that a detailed project report (DPR) for Mangaluru Central Railway Station's redevelopment is ready and will be submitted to the railway department. Plans include additional stabilizing lines, with work expected to be operational within a year.

The MP also instructed officials to devise a comprehensive plan to relocate the goods shed from the port area to Ullal and Panambur permanently.

Traffic congestion at Pandeshwar railway gate: The construction of a railway underbridge to ease congestion at Pandeshwar was discussed. However, railway officials stated that it was not feasible. Mangaluru City Corporation’s executive engineer, Naresh Shenai, said a feasibility report for a railway underbridge at Surathkal NITK is pending. NITK has requested a 500-meter area survey report, including water levels in nearby drains. MLA Vedavyas Kamath and Capt Chowta directed officials to submit available data to facilitate the study.

Corporator Prema Nand Shetty proposed widening the road at the level crossing to improve traffic flow.

Mahakalipadpu underpass: Railway officials confirmed that the pedestrian underpass at Mahakalipadpu is complete. The city underpass is slated for completion by January 2025. Capt Chowta directed Smart City authorities to coordinate the work on the connecting road concurrently.

Also present were MLAs Bharath Shetty, Vedvyas Kamath and Umanath Kotian, district commissioner Mullai Muhilan, mayor Manoj Kodikal, additional regional manager of Palakkad Railway Anil Kumar, regional manager of Konkan Railway Asha, and other officials.

Can an MP order the Railway Dept to take any action? An MP is in the Legislative wing of governance. Only the Executive wing can order a department. Please overstep your arena and flaunt your power. Please go through the relevant Ministry, or else your actions will be unconstitutional, Mr. M.P.

Why can’t Farangipete and Jokatte stations be developed simultaneously? This could be cost saving if developed under one project.

Dear MP, firstly, get acquainted with the constituency you won because you were hardly in Mangalore. Congratulations to you. Go little further.....the national highway is at its worst. People of Mangaluru (DK) waiting to celebrate tricentinary of this condition. Please give them a chance. All previous representatives were so good. I wish you too will continue the tradition. We are proud of our district. Let us see what will happen in your tenure. Good luck.

Brijesh Chowta Should use his tenure to convert railway track in to double from Mangalore-Subramanya. And more local trains to cope with road blockages from the heavy traffic. This will be a meaningful development to benefit all.

In places like Mangalore where it rains heavily, railways should desist from going for a cheap alternative in under-bridge and instead use over bridge even if it is expensive. An under bridge artificially created is a spot which will be invariably a low lying area where waterlogging will take place. Padil under bridge is a living example and time test experiment that failed and continues to fail every monsoon.

What happened to the development of Mangalore railway station and the establishment of a divisional office in Mangalore? These goals could have been easily achieved if the Tulunadu region were a separate state. It would have also prevented resource diversion projects, such as the Nethravati river diversion, imposed by Karnataka
