Mangalore, Dec 11:  The human rights education cell, St Agnes Women’s College, organized a national seminar on the occasion of international ‘Human Rights Day’ at on Saturday December 10.

Dr Prem D’Souza, principal, St Agnes Women’s College, who presided over the seminar, observed that education is a fundamental instrument which helps implement human rights effectively. “Even literate people must give importance to it. Due to the impact of human rights, social justice and welfare of the community is possible. Indian citizens practice human rights all over the globe,” she added.

Dr D’Souza hoped and wished that the year 2012 will bring love and harmony for the success of human rights.

Sr Viola, assistant convener, human rights education cell, said that human rights  is a curriculum-based,  practical-oriented subject but not a theoretical one to be listen to as lessons in the classrooms. She said that the cell had organized many awareness programmes in rural areas.

Chandramohan Marathe, convener of the cell, was present. During this event, a souvenir was also release which is a collection of a series of lectures conducted during the seminar held at the college in September 2011.
