Udupi, Nov 12: The 71st All India Cooperative Week will be celebrated in Udupi from November 14 to 20.
The Karnataka State Co-operative Federation Limited, Bengaluru, in collaboration with the Udupi District co-operative Union Limited, Udupi, the co-operative department, and various co-operative organizations of Udupi district, will conduct district-level and state-level programmes for the 71st All India Co-operative Week across Udupi district from November 14 to 20.
Jayakar Shetty Indrali, president, Udupi District Co-operative Union Limited, at a press conference held on November 12, said, “The 71st All India Co-operative Week will be celebrated across the nation from November 14 to 20. This year's theme for co-operative week is 'The role of co-operative societies in building a developed India.' Accordingly, Co-operative Week will be celebrated throughout Udupi district. Jawaharlal Nehru dedicated his life to the cooperative movement, therefore from November 14 Sahakara Saptaha week is observed.”
“During the seven-day celebration across Udupi district from November 14 to November 20, each day will be dedicated to a specific theme, which will be the focal point of that day’s events. Co-operative leaders, members, dignitaries, and the public will be invited to raise awareness about the meaning, significance, principles, and benefits of the co-operative movement. The goal is to help people understand co-operative principles, integrate them into their lifestyles, and find a path to a peaceful life. The themes chosen for the week reflect the essential topics of the year and various perspectives within the co-operative sector.”
The inaugural ceremony of the cooperative week will take place on November 14 at the Shri Chamundeshwari Auditorium, Shri Durga Co-operative Bhavan, Mandarti. The event will be inaugurated by A Kiran Kumar Kodgi, MLA of Kundapura, and presided over by B Jayakar Shetty Indrali. Other notable dignitaries, including H Dhananjay Shetty, administrator of Shri Durgaparameshwari Temple, Mandarti, and K R Lavanya, deputy registrar of co-operative Societies, will also attend the ceremony. Professor Kokkarne Surendranath Shetty, retired head of political science at MGM College, Udupi, will deliver the keynote address.
On November 14, a special co-operative flag will be hoisted at the institutions across the district, and all co-operative organizations, their presidents, directors, and employees will come together to sing the co-operative anthem. Additionally, a Shakara chariot will be launched, which will travel across the district to spread awareness about the cooperative movement to local households.
The cooperative week will be celebrated in different taluks of the district, each day initiated by different organizations. The celebrations will also include daily discussions by resource persons on various cooperative topics. These initiatives aim to deepen understanding and participation in the cooperative movement.
