Rajkumar Gupta Teams with Emraan for Comedy

New Delhi, Dec 12 (IANS): After serious movies like "Aamir" and "No One Killed Jessica", filmmaker Rajkumar Gupta now moves on to lighter subject with "Ghanchakkar" and he has teamed up with Emraan Hashmi for the urban comedy.

The film is being produced by UTV Motion Pictures and this is Emraan's first film with the production house, while Gupta is glad to be back with the banner for his third film.

Gupta is also looking forward to working with Emraan, who has been receiving compliments galore for his work in "The Dirty Picture".

"I am very excited to have Emraan on board and glad to be taking forward my association with Ronnie (Screwvala) and his amazing team at UTV after 'Aamir' and 'No One...'. We made the audience cry in 'Aamir' and 'No One...', and with 'Ghanchakkar', we're going to make them laugh," said Gupta.

Giving a sneak peek into the film, he said: "'Ghanchakkar' is a quasi-realistic urban comedy - thriller highlighting the absurdity of certain real human situations."

The film is written by Pervez Shaikh and Raj Kumar Gupta.

Emraan said: "'Ghanchakkar' is one of the best scripts I've heard in recent times. Commercial, edgy and very entertaining, I am sure this one's going to be a landmark film in my career."

Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, UTV Motion Pictures, is confident the film will do well.

He said: "After two back-to-back hits with 'Aamir' and 'No One...', we are thrilled to announce our next film with Rajkumar Gupta, 'Ghanchakkar'. What makes this even more exciting is that we will be working with Emraan for the first time."

"Emraan is one of the most bankable stars in recent times and just the perfect lead casting for this film. Rajkumar and Pervez Sheikh have written a cracker of a script and with Emraan playing the sort of role he has never essayed before, audiences are in for a quirky, zany, crazy, suspenseful ride," Roy Kapur added.
