Mangaluru, Nov 20: Dr S G Sarvotham Prabhu, an accomplished cardiologist and retired professor and head of the department of cardiology at KMC Manipal, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, at the age of 84.
A pioneer in the field of cardiology, Dr Prabhu was among the first to receive advanced training at the prestigious CMC Vellore in 1970. He played a crucial role in establishing the department of cardiology and the DM cardiology programme at KMC Manipal. Recognizing his ground-breaking contributions, he was honoured with the Karnataka Governor’s Award in the 1980s.
Renowned as a ‘teacher of teachers’, Dr. Prabhu mentored countless cardiologists who continue to carry forward his legacy of excellence and compassion. His profound impact on the medical field remains unmatched.
Dr Prabhu is survived by his daughters, Suman Prabhu and Dr Sowmini P Kamath; sons-in-law, Dr Ravindra Prabhu and Dr Padmanabh Kamath; and five grandchildren. A devoted family man, he was also a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
