Bal Bharti Student Wins UN Slogan Writing Competition

New Delhi, Dec 13 (IANS): Aashna Mahendru, a student of class seven of Bal Bharti Public School, Tuesday won the inter-school online slogan-writing competition which was organised by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) here.

The competition attracted entries from around 750 students ranging from classes six to eleven from 16 schools in Delhi.

Former secretary in the Department of Agriculture and Food, T. Nanda Kumar presided over the awards ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion of World Food Day, Kumar said: "The youth of today is more confident of taking on the world. Our country has progressed but we still have a large number of under-nourished people. We need to be mindful of food wastage by those who can afford it so that there is more available for the poor."
