Udupi, Nov 24: The annual eucharistic procession and Christ the King Feast of the Udupi Catholic Diocese were held with great devotion on Sunday, November 24, at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur, in the presence of thousands of faithful.
The event began with the solemn Eucharistic celebration led by the Bishop of Udupi Diocese, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, who delivered an inspiring message to the congregation. He emphasised that love should not merely be expressed but demonstrated through actions. He called on the faithful to build god's kingdom through forgiveness, love, and service.
Following the holy mass, Fr Wilson D’Souza conducted the Eucharistic Adoration. The Eucharist, specially adorned and placed on an open vehicle, was taken in a grand procession through the streets of Kallianpur, culminating in a public prayer service at the Mount Rosary Church grounds in Santhekatte.
The faithful, numbering in thousands, participated in the procession with devotion, singing hymns and glorifying god without causing any inconvenience to the public. The procession was marked by orderly movement in two lines, accompanied by band music and devotional songs.
Fr Dr Jencila Alva, parish priest of Milagres Cathedral, delivered a sermon during the Bible reading, highlighting that the Eucharist unites believers with Jesus and calls for a life of harmony within the community. He urged the faithful to be pilgrims of hope, sharing joy and compassion in each other’s struggles.
Referring to the spiritual significance of pilgrimages, he likened the Eucharist to a source of hope for those in despair, encouraging a closer relationship with God. He expressed optimism that the Jubilee Year 2025 would serve as an inspiration for renewed vigor in spiritual life.
The event witnessed participation from over 3,000 devotees, 60 priests, and more than 100 religious sisters from various parishes of the Udupi Diocese. Key attendees included Vicar general Monsignor Ferdinand Gonsalves, chancellor Fr Dr. Roshan D’Souza, PRO Fr Denis D’Sa, and prominent clergy from Shirva, Karkala, and Udupi deaneries.
The Eucharistic worship at Mount Rosary Church was devoutly conducted by Fr Cyril Lobo, while Priya Furtado proposed a vote of thanks.
“Pope Francis has declared 2025 as the ordinary Jubilee Year, themed Pilgrims of Hope. It calls for fostering love, faith, and unity in a world clouded by war, hatred, and division. The faithful are invited to place their trust in Christ, creating an environment of hope amidst despair” said Fr Denis D’Sa, PRO, Udupi Diocese highlighting the preparation for jubilee year.
