Mangalore, Dec 16: Vice chancellor of Mangalore University, Prof T C Shivahankara Murthy, informed that all the units functioning under Kannada Study Centre of the university will be shifted to the new building of the centre, once the same is completed.

He was speaking after presiding over the general session of the academic council of the university held on Thursday December 15 at the senate hall. He said that the construction of the building at a cost of Rs 2.9 crore is progressing at a brisk pace.

He informed that the university has decided to adopt rotation system in which even assistant professors in the absence of professors in the departments, can become the chairpersons of the department of studies. This system has been in vogue since long in Mysore University, he said, adding that the new system will become effective from January 1, 2012. The only condition is that a person should have an experience of at least five years to be able to head the department.

He informed that by using two crore rupees of University Grants Commission grant under information technology, the university will increase the number of computers from the current 700 to 1,000. He said that internet connectivity will be provided without any limit, and tender has been floated for providing laptops and internet connections to all the teachers of the university at an estimated cost of Rs 40 lac.

The meeting was attended by registrar of the university, Prof K Chinnappa Gowda, registrar of examinations, Prof P S Yadapadittaya, and finance officer, Fakirappa.
