Missing Nurse Case: CBI Mulls Legal Action Against Lawmaker

Jodhpur, Dec 18 (IANS): The CBI is likely to take legal action against Rajasthan Congress legislator Malkhan Singh Bishnoi for ignoring its four summons and not appearing for questioning in the case of missing nurse Bhanwari Devi, sources said Saturday.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Saturday once again searched some of Bishnoi's properties here as he continued to evade questioning.

The house of his sister Indra Singh Bishnoi was also searched by the agency as she was also untraceable.

Malkhan Singh approached the CBI through his lawyer a couple of days back saying he was in Delhi for medical treatment and conveyed that he will be available for questioning Saturday.

"But he did not come to the Circuit House here where the questioning was to take place. Now, we are considering to approach a court on Monday to get an arrest warrant issued against him," sources in the CBI told IANS.

The CBI has served four summons on him in Jodhpur over the past eight days, but the legislator from Luni constituency did not appear before the agency.

"Malkhan Singh Bishnoi has been served four notices requiring him to appear before the CBI for questioning, but he has ignored all of them," sources said.

The CBI had even pasted a notice outside his residence in Jodhpur Tuesday. The notice also warned of legal action if he failed to present himself for questioning.

The legislator is alleged to have been close to the nurse, who is missing since Sep 1 and is feared dead.

His brother Parasram Bishnoi was arrested Dec 2 along with sacked Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna, who allegedly featured on a CD in a compromising position with the nurse.

The CBI is also trying to trace Malkhan's sister Indra Singh Bishnoi. She was also close to Bhanwari and had earlier claimed that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was aware of the CD showing Maderna and the nurse in a compromising position.

In a CBI charge sheet filed before the court earlier, three men - Shahabuddin, Baliya and Sohanlal - were charged with abduction of the nurse with an intent to kill and criminal conspiracy.

They were also booked under various sections of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
