New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS): Aiming to bring professionals for the management of the national highways, a bill to amend the National Highways Authority of India Act was introduced in parliament Monday.
The bill seeks to increase the number of NHAI's full-time members from five to six and that of part-time members from four to six to allow induction of professionals of repute in financial management, transportation planing and other relevant areas.
Officials said induction of professionals will enhance the capacity of the authority to take strategic decisions, widen its perspective and assist in achieving the goal of higher private participation.
This has been done keeping in mind the vastly increased mandate of the NHAI and also greatly enhanced participation envisaged for the private sector.
The bill was introduced in 2008 but lapsed with the end of the 14th Lok Sabha's term.
