Bangalore: Multi-Skill Development Centre for Mangalore

Bangalore, Dec 20: A multi-skill development centre (MSDC) is proposed to be set up in Mangalore from the next financial year by the State Government.

Another similar MSDC will be established in Belgaum along with industrial schools in association with small scale industries.

At present, Karnataka has MSDCs in Gulbarga and Bangalore.

The State Government officials in a presentation to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s Adviser, S Ramadorai, in Bangalore on Tuesday mentioned that the State Labour and Employment Department will be making a formal request to the Centre to sanction at least 100 industrial training institutes under public-private-partnership and 250 skill development centres to Karnataka in 2012-13.

Senior officials of the State Labour Department and Skill Development Council made the presentation the Prime Minister’s Adviser during which Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, Labour Minister B N Bache Gowda and State Chief Secretary S V Ranganath also interacted with Ramadorai, who is also Vice-Chairman of Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.

The Labour Minister said the State Government has demanded the Centre to hike the remuneration under “Modular Employable Skills” (MES) scheme from the current Rs 15 per hour to Rs 30 per hour.

Nearly 1.40 lakh students join various grades in over 1380 industrial training institutes in the State, the minister said.

Bache Gowda said the Government has taken several measures to train skills of students and held job melas to absorb trained candidates by the industries.
