Mangaluru: Bandhuthva Christmas program promotes unity, harmony at Vorkady

Vorkady, Dec 15: The Bandhuthva Christmas program, followed by the Sowharda Christmas celebration, was held on December 8 at Vorkady.

The event was presided over by Fr Basil Vas, with Dr Ivan D'Souza, head of the Chair in Christianity, inaugurating the program and delivering a message on Bandhuthva (friendship and unity).

The chief guests for the occasion included Dr Jaya Prakash, president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Kasargod district; Razak Ananthadi, lecturer at Bantwal Government Junior College; and A R Subbayyakatte, member of the Karnataka Border Development Board.

In his speech, Fr Basil Vas emphasized the importance of harmony as the foundation for a peaceful community. As a symbol of unity, all the leaders together cut the Christmas cake and shared it with the attendees.

Other notable guests included vice president Rajesh D'Souza, secretary Sandya D'Souza, coordinator Anitha D'Souza, Sr Shanthi and Sr Monthi, the convent superiors. The event was compered by Jaya Prakash D'Souza.

Following the Bandhuthva program, a day-long cricket tournament was held, with each team consisting of Christian, Hindu, and Muslim players, symbolizing the spirit of unity and togetherness.
