Mangalore, Dec 21: “India is suffering from lack of quality leadership because of which, it is not possible to end corruption easily,” stated Dr R Balsubramanya, founder, Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement Mysore, at the Shivaram Karanth Conference Hall on Wednesday December 21.
After inaugurating the ‘Youth Against Corruption’ (YAC) Mangalore Chapter, he delivered a remarkable speech. Dr Balsubramanya stated that if Lokayukta Act is implemented, any citizen of India can readily lodge a case against corrupt officials which will not be applied effectively. “In Indian parliament, every bill and act passes through the raising of hands by members present and already 17 bills have been passed on the basis of that gesture alone without any discussions,” he added.
Dr Balsubramanya said that in the past, when a protest started at the Hobli level (TQs) against corruption, a majority of people called it ‘madness’ and now that madness swallows Indians. “Corruption struggle icon Hazare started his protest from Bangalore,” he added.
“Karnataka state has become the worst in the nation and is seen as topping the list in corruption and scams. Every year the government sanctions Rs 30-40 crore only for Mysore Dussera festivities, but they have not spent Rs 10-15 crore of the sanctioned amount which is misused,” he informed.
Dr Balsubramanya pointed out that citizens have ignored their responsibility and rights, and are known only for voting for candidates blindly.
He appealed to Mangaloreans to support the protest against corruption and make sincere efforts to protect the Lokayukta Act and he expressed his desire to make the district corruption free within the year.
Deviprasad Shetty, YAC convener, delivered the introductory speech. He assured that awareness about corruption will be spread from villages to parliament (GP to ZP) by this chapter in the coming days.
