Indian Jailed in Italy for Killing Son

Rome, Dec 23 (IANS/AKI) An Indian immigrant was jailed Thursday after a Rome appeals court upheld a 15-year-four-month sentence he received for killing his son because he did not respect Indian culture or his domestic authority.

The 41-one-year-old father, named only as K.V., was arrested in April 2009 at his home in the coastal town of Anzio near the Italian capital where he stabbed his son in chest during heated argument because he deemed the 21-year-old victim disrespectful after coming home after 1.00 am.

K.V. and his wife called an ambulance but the son died soon after arriving at the hospital. The culture clash between parents and their children born in Italy's expanding immigrant community at times results violence.

In 2010 a Pakistani immigrant was arrested with his son on suspicion of bludgeoning his wife to death near the northern Italian city of Modena after she defended her daughter for refusing an arranged marriage.

In June a Moroccan carpenter living near Venice was arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife to death because she wanted to leave him and begin a more liberated and western life with another man.
