Mangaluru: POCSO case accused sentenced to five years of simple imprisonment

Mangaluru, Dec 21: The additional district and sessions court (FTSC-1 POCSO), Dakshina Kannada, sentenced Mohammed Ramshid alias Ramshi, a resident of Sand Pit, Bengre, to five years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. In the event of failure to pay the fine, the court has ordered an additional one year of simple imprisonment and an additional fine of Rs 5,000.

The accused had been in judicial custody for the past five months as he was unable to secure bail. During this time, the inquiry was completed, and his guilt was proven.

The case investigation was carried out under the directive of city police commissioner Anupam Agarwal and the guidance of Siddhartha Goyal, DCP (Law and Order), and former DCP of Crime and Traffic, Manoj Kumar Naik. The Panambur police station inspector, Saleem Abbas, supervised the investigation, while PSI Raghavendra Naik, currently posted at Suratkal police station, conducted the preliminary inquiry. The investigation was completed, and a chargesheet was submitted to the court by Srikala K T, with the assistance of Premanand HC 436.

Special public prosecutor Sahana Devi represented the prosecution, leading to the conviction.
