Mangaluru, Dec 24: Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, engineering alumni of the prestigious institute of the batch 1995-1999/2000 celebrated their silver reunion at the MIT campus on December 19.
More than 225 engineers of all the then ten engineering streams - architecture, bio-medical, civil, computer science, chemical, electronics & communications, electrical, industrial production, mechanical, and print media - from all over the world gathered in the campus.
The day began with a decorated procession by the engineers from the famous Kamath Circle (now, student Plaza) to the MIT’s Main Block, roughly 1 km within the campus.
The alumni, majority of who were visiting for the first time after their graduation, were in awe of the transformation of the campus, new facilities, industry leading courses and labs, industry-academia research centre, and innovation centre.
The alumni were addressed by the director, joint director, associate director outlining the growth and transformation, inviting alumni to offer their services to the growth of the future generations of engineers.
Alumni also took the occasion to felicitate their retired and senior faculties, current HODs of all the streams, and other favourite staffs - about 50 in numbers.
Alumni reminiscence their college life, how the institutes core values have shaped their profession and life, and how they are giving back to the society.
Alumni also had their branch-wise photo-op with their faculties.
The college also launched the MIT Alumni Association portal - the official channel for all the MIT alumni all over the world and from different years to be united under one place.
The alumni also held a private event where many showcased their new talents from singing to dancing, from voiceover to stand-up comedy, and poetry to showing their fiancé on various instruments.
“It was a life changing experience for me having met some of my closest batchmates since years”, said Tukaram Prabhu, Anil Nayak, Harsha Melanta, who are home-grown entrepreneurs from Mangaluru.
“This helped reconnecting with our friends and reenergize ourselves and learn more about the transformation of the campus and offering advance technological courses” said Annapoorna who’s currently an architect in the USA.
Meera from Australia, Lavina from Qatar, Nitin Hegde, Ashley D’Souza and Sachin Prabhu who are in highly decorated positions echoed similar sentiments of hundreds.
