Mangaluru, Dec 30: A man who attempted to save his niece from drowning tragically lost his life in the sea at Someshwara on Sunday afternoon.
K M Sajjad Ali (45), son of the late Khazoom Abdul Sheikh and a resident of HPK Road, Shivajinagar, Bengaluru, is the deceased.
The incident occurred when Sajjad's niece, the daughter of his elder brother, was caught in the waves while playing on the beach. Sajjad entered the sea to rescue her. Though he managed to save his niece, he drowned in the process. He was brought back to the shore but succumbed while being transported to a hospital in Deralakatte.
Sajjad, a real estate businessman in Bengaluru, had traveled to Padil with 10 family members to attend a relative's wedding. Following the ceremony, the family visited Someshwar Beach, where the mishap occurred.
Sajjad married Aleema Rasheeda, a native of Puttur, in 2015. The family lived in Bengaluru for 11 years before relocating to Puttur four years ago, where they resided in a rented flat. Sajjad used to visit Puttur once a week. On December 29, he had come to Puttur with his family and brothers for the wedding.
Sajjad is survived by his mother Sajida Begum, wife Aleema, and children Kaira Faiza, Hamzan Ali, and Hussain Ali.
