Mangaluru, Sep 24: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested a 36-year-old man on charges of peddling drugs and seized MDMA worth Rs 1,15,000 from his possession.
Acting on a reliable tip-off, the CCB officers and staff conducted an operation on the evening of September 23. The accused was apprehended while waiting to sell the contraband by the side of National Highway 73, opposite Yashasvi Hall near the Arkula junction in Mangaluru taluk.
The arrested accused has been identified as Subhash (36), son of Ammu Poojary and a resident of Vaishali Nilaya, Nalade House in Meramajalu village of Bantwal taluk.
During the operation, the police confiscated 23.20 grams of MDMA valued at Rs 1,15,000, two mobile phones, and a weighing scale from him. Following the arrest, the accused and the seized items were handed over to the Kankanady city police station.
A case has been registered against the accused at the Kankanady city police station under Crime No. 133/2026, invoking sections 8(c) and 22(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police are currently gathering information about other individuals involved in this drug peddling network, and further investigation is underway. Notably, Subhash already has a prior case registered against him at the Mangaluru East police station under sections 8(c) and 22(b) of the NDPS Act, which is currently under investigation.
The police have urged the public, particularly students, to remain vigilant and report any such illegal activities to their nearest police station.
