Udupi: Four arrested for trafficking MDMA, ganja - Contraband worth Rs 7.86 lac seized

Udupi, Dec 30: In a significant crackdown, Udupi police arrested four individuals involved in trafficking banned substances and seized contraband worth Rs 7.86 lac. The operation, led by DySP Aravind N Kalugujji and CEN police station inspector Ramachandra Nayak, was conducted following a tip-off.

The police intercepted the accused at Neere Highway in Karkala taluk, where they were attempting to sell ganja and MDMA from a car and a motorcycle.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Premanath alias Prem alias Revunath (23) from Kurkalu village, Kaup taluk; Shailesh Shetty (24) from Perdur, Udupi; Prajwal (28) from Bommarabettu, Kaup; and Ratan (27) from Bommarabettu, Udupi.

The seized items include:

  • 1.112 kg of ganja valued at Rs 87,500
  • 37.27 grams of MDMA worth Rs 2 lac
  • A car worth Rs 4 lac
  • A motorcycle worth Rs 50,000
  • Rs 7,130 in cash
  • Five mobile phones valued at Rs 41,000

A case has been registered at the CEN police station. The operation involved sub-inspectors Pavan Nayak and police personnel Praveen Kumar, Praveen, Rajesh, Venkatesh, Dikshit, Mayappa, and Charan Raj.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover further links in the drug trafficking network.
