Udupi, Dec 30: The Udupi Traffic Police Department is facing a severe shortage of personnel, a challenge that has become more pronounced due to ongoing traffic diversions in the city.
The diversions have significantly increased the workload on the already stretched police force, necessitating strategic deployment at crucial junctions to manage the flow of vehicles.
At present, two traffic police personnel are stationed at Kadiyali Circle, working in shifts to handle the traffic volume. Another two officers are deployed at Kalsanka Circle, an important junction in the city.
Four personnel are stationed at the busy Udupi City Stand to manage congestion in the area. Additionally, two officers are assigned to direct vehicles travelling from the Service Stand towards Bannanje, while two more are posted along the Karavali Bypass to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Despite their efforts, the limited resources are making it difficult for the department to manage the increased traffic load effectively. The department has emphasised the need for additional personnel and resources to ease the burden on the current team and improve traffic management across the city.
