Washington, Jan 6: On the eve of the fourth anniversary of the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, President Joe Biden emphasized the importance of remembering that day and ensuring its history is not distorted.

In an op-ed published in The Washington Post, Biden wrote, "In time, there will be Americans who didn’t witness the Jan. 6 riot firsthand but will learn about it from footage and testimony of that day, from what is written in history books and from the truth we pass on to our children." He added, "We cannot allow the truth to be lost."

The Jan. 6 attack occurred when a group of supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol in a bid to prevent Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election. Trump, who had lost the election to Biden, continued to claim the outcome was fraudulent and urged his supporters to "fight like hell."

Meanwhile, in a dramatic political comeback, Trump regained the presidency in a stunning victory in the November election. On the following Monday, Congress is set to officially count the states' electoral votes and certify the results of the election.

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to preside over the certification as Senate president, having lost the 2020 race to Trump.
