New Delhi, Jan 6: In a bold move ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, the Delhi Congress has introduced the ‘Pyari Didi Yojana,’ which promises to provide Rs 2,500 per month to all eligible women in the city if the party wins power. The scheme aims to boost financial support for women, addressing rising prices and offering relief to families in need.
To gain further traction, the Congress invited Karnataka deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar to a media briefing where he highlighted the success of a similar initiative in his state, calling it a model that could benefit BJP-ruled states as well.
Shivakumar assured Delhi residents that the ‘Pyari Didi Yojana’ would be the first major decision made by the Congress in a post-victory Cabinet meeting. He also detailed how Karnataka's welfare programs, such as financial aid for women and free public transportation, had positively impacted the state. The Congress leader expressed confidence that the Delhi government under Congress would follow through on these promises as it has in other states.
“The BJP mocked our welfare schemes, claiming they would bankrupt Karnataka, but now they’ve copied the same model in other states,” said Shivakumar. He reiterated that the financial support for women was designed to help families deal with inflation and improve their standard of living.
Qazi Nizamuddin, AICC in charge for Delhi Congress, stressed the party’s credibility in fulfilling social welfare promises and contrasted it with the BJP’s empty claims, including its broken promise of Rs 15 lakh to every citizen. He further emphasized that Congress had consistently delivered on its guarantees in states like Karnataka, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and others.
Devender Yadav, Delhi Congress president, unveiled a catchy campaign slogan: "Hogi har zaroorat puri, Congress hai zaroori" (Congress is essential to fulfilling all basic needs). He pointed out that the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ program in Karnataka has already benefited over 1.2 crore women, with citizens saving substantial amounts due to financial aid, free rice, and job schemes. Yadav promised to implement similar initiatives in Delhi, ensuring a direct positive impact on the lives of women and families.
The Delhi Congress also criticized the AAP and its former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for failing to deliver on promises, particularly regarding infrastructure improvements in schools, water, and electricity. Yadav labeled Kejriwal a “dream seller” who had failed to address the issues of corruption and public welfare in the city.
With these announcements, Congress seeks to position itself as the party that will prioritize the welfare of Delhi’s women and families, offering a clear alternative to the existing government.
