Jasprit Bumrah to be rested for England series to ensure fitness for ICC champions trophy

Daijiworld Media Release – New Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 6: India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, who recently struggled with back spasms, is expected to be rested for most of the upcoming home white-ball series against England. The move is designed to prioritize his recovery and ensure his full fitness ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, which is set to begin on February 19.

Bumrah was a key performer for India in the recently concluded border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he claimed 32 wickets despite India’s 1-3 series loss to Australia. However, his progress in the series was hindered by back spasms, which forced him to sit out the final innings.

India’s champions trophy campaign will begin on February 20 against Bangladesh in Dubai, and Bumrah’s availability will be crucial for the team's prospects. His injury status will play a significant role in determining his participation in upcoming matches. If his back injury is classified as grade 1, he will require two to three weeks of rehabilitation before being fit to return. A grade 2 injury may take up to six weeks to heal, while the most severe grade 3 injury could sideline him for at least three months.

The management is closely monitoring his recovery as they look to ensure that Bumrah is ready to lead the Indian attack in the prestigious ICC event.
