Sullia, Dec 30: Based on the inquiry report on the stone pelting incident on the local police station and retaliatory action by the police personnel, who had arrested some BJP leaders and activists and allegedly tortured them in inhuman ways, a inspector and a sub-inspector have been suspended, it is learnt.

The Chief Minister, based on the allegations made by the local leaders, accusing the police personnel of highhandedness while dealing with innocent BJP activists, had ordered the said inquiry. The state director general of police (DGP) had deputed additional director general of police (ADGP), Bipin Gopalakrishna, to the town. After conducting inquiry of the people and the police personnel involved on December 23 and 24, he had sent his report on December 26. The report was thereafter, handed over to the Chief Minister by the DGP.

On the basis of the findings of the inquiry, DGP of the state, Shankar Bidari, has issued orders suspending the two police officers as above on Thursday December 29. Although he has confirmed the suspensions, he did not reveal their names. “Our preliminary inquiry has revealed that the conduct of two police officers in handling the stone pelting incident was far from satisfactory. We have taken action on the basis of the report submitted by the ADGP. Under rule 6, a departmental inquiry has been ordered by the deputy commissioner of police (law and order) of Mangalore city commissionerate,” Bidari said.
