Bantwal, Jan 9: The Karnataka State ASHA Workers’ Union, under the coordination of CITU, has submitted an appeal to the government seeking an increase in salary and enhanced job security. The memorandum, addressed to the chief minister and health minister of Karnataka, was submitted through the taluk health officer under the leadership of B M Bhat, representing the Bantwal taluk committee.
The appeal outlines several demands, including a hike in the monthly salary from the current Rs 5,000 to Rs 26,000, job security, a minimum pay structure, retirement benefits such as gratuity and pension, and recognition as government employees. Additional requests include the provision of smartphones and allowances for online work, health insurance, restrictions on assigning non-ASHA and non-departmental tasks, restrooms in every PHC and government hospital, as well as travel and daily allowances.
Bantwal taluk committee president Flossy Vittal, secretary Sumati, and vice president Ranjini were also present during the submission.
