Devajit Saikia, Prabhtej Singh Bhatia elected as BCCI honorary secretary, treasurer

Mumbai, Jan 13: In a landmark decision, Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were unanimously elected as the honorary secretary and honorary treasurer of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), respectively. The appointments were finalized during the special general meeting held at the BCCI headquarters on Sunday, January 12, 2024.

The election process, overseen by Electoral Officer A K Joti, concluded with both individuals assuming their roles effective immediately.

Extending his congratulations, BCCI president Roger Binny remarked, “I warmly congratulate Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia on their well-deserved appointments. They inherit the remarkable legacy of Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar, who set exemplary benchmarks. With their administrative expertise and financial insight, I am confident they will propel Indian cricket to greater heights. My gratitude also goes to our State Associations for their unanimous support and trust in our shared vision for Indian cricket.”

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla echoed the sentiments, describing the appointments as a new era for the administrative framework of Indian cricket. “Both Saikia and Bhatia bring exceptional credentials in cricket administration and professional expertise. Their unanimous selection reflects our State Associations' faith in their leadership. Together, we will focus on enhancing cricket infrastructure, fostering talent, and making the sport more accessible,” he said.

The newly appointed officials are expected to build on the strong foundations laid by their predecessors, taking Indian cricket's governance and financial management to unprecedented levels of excellence.
